The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) Young Author Awards is always a tough competition. Thousands of students from across the province participate in the program.

This year, there were 325 entries at the provincial level of the Young Author Awards, and only 53 winners were chosen. One of which, was our very own Samantha Moneypenny from Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Collingwood.

The Grade 11 student entered and won for her short story titled, “Leaked.” The story is told from the perspective of a young high school student named Leo, who is trapped in a time where secret government experiments have been leaked to the public. Human DNA is being split with that of animals, leaving humans with animal characteristics and body parts.

The publication of the winners is distributed to all MPP’s, Directors of Education and Catholic schools in the province.

We want to congratulate Samantha on her amazing achievement, and we look forward to seeing more of what her imagination can bring us.
